Emulators

The first console system emulator to gain widespread attention was Virtual Gameboy, which remains as the humble beginnings of the console emulation scene. Later versions, many multisystem ports, and absolutely no competition has let Virtual Gameboy remain as the king of Gameboy emulation!

Fondle GB v0.48 (MS-DOS)

Fondle's Gameboy Emulator is nothing more than a hack of Virtual Gameboy for DOS. Fondle's new features include an ingame options screen (Esc), changing backgrounds, colors, and cartridges without restarting. Another feature is screen capturing. The base of this emulator is Virtual Gameboy v0.8.1, but Fondle Gameboy runs slightly slower.

GB Sim 0.99 Last Release (MS-DOS Source/Binaries)

The last version of another Gameboy emulator includes a disassembler, tracer, and source. Development was ended on GB Sim due to Virtual Gameboy's superiority.

Hyperboy v0.3 Build 74 (Windows) This outdated build off of Virtual Gameboy Windows v0.3, requires no registration and is slightly faster (but not when compared to v0.7).

Virtual Gameboy Amiga v0.4a (Amiga Binaries / Source) As it was produced in one day and never updated, not too much can be expected from this port. It is playable on an A4000 with CyberVision64 board working in the chunky mode, but a bit slow on ECS-equipped machines. Both sources and binaries are included so that screen drivers can be easily rewritten.

Virtual Gameboy v0.8.4 (MS-DOS) Virtual Gameboy for MS-DOS was successfully ported and enhanced by Marcel de Kogel. Marcel has left Virtual Gameboy due to many other pressing projects. Hans de Goede was allowed to modify Virtual Gameboy a bit before the next release from Marat, and has added color scheme changing during games and a few other features.

Virtual Gameboy v0.7.4 (MacOS) The popular Gameboy emulator, Virtual Gameboy, has been ported to the Macintosh with flying colors. Special features include vastly improved sound, autofire, and Game Genie support! Version 0.7.4 adds Game Genie and triple sized screen support.

Virtual Gameboy v0.6.1 (OS/2) Virtual Gameboy has been ported to OS/2 and runs at almost the exact speed of its Windows counterpart of the same version.

Virtual Gameboy v0.6 (OS/2 Xfree86) Xfree86, the X-Windows environment for OS/2 was treated with many emulator ports by Krister Bergman one day, and Virtual Gameboy v0.6 was one of those many ports. None of the ports were ever updated, and the emulator here remains quite outdated.

Virtual Gameboy v0.7 (Unix/X) Virtual Gameboy was one of Marat Fayzullan's earlier emulators, and his first console emulator. Marat has informed the public that v1.0 will soon be available with Super Gameboy enhancements and bug fixes.

Virtual Gameboy v0.7 (Windows) Virtual Gameboy was one of Marat Fayzullan's earlier emulators, and his first console emulator. Marat has informed the public that v1.0 will soon be available with Super Gameboy enhancements and bug fixes.
