SDragon - Here we have The_Brain, the writer of VSMC. You write probably to most hopefull emulator as of right now, what works, and what will work in the near future? The_Brain - What works? Lots of stuff 'works' -- Commercial games and homebrewn alike. The_Brain - VSMC will currently _play_: The_Brain - Super Mario World The_Brain - Cosmo Gangs The_Brain - Mr. Do! The_Brain - Wing Commander The_Brain - and will almost play: Equinox, Super Starwars, Ultima: R.O.V. and many, MANY others. The_Brain - Of course, it will certainly play other games, too -- but I'm relying on the users of VSMC to inform me about these things. SDragon - And more games every day, as I understand it :). What gaming system is your favorite? The_Brain - I really prefer the PC platform. ... Mainly because the games are easy to cheat on (PC users have all the neat debugger toys, like SoftIce, etc.) The_Brain - (that's was the original (and remaining?) purpose of VSMC -- to be able to apply PC cheat methods to SNES games.) The_Brain - (and, in the future, GB and NES games, as well -- all in time) The_Brain - of course, cheating is just the beginning -- In time, people could develop Mario World Level Editors and what not.. The_Brain - ... THAT'S what I'm really looking forward to. SDragon - Editors are good, so, about what time frame would you estimate VSMC to be done? (nothing specific, but an idea) The_Brain - 'done' in what sense? SDragon - well, let's consider 'done' as being at least 80% of all games. That is a good goal. The_Brain - Okay.. Were you around when I spoke of exponential development? The_Brain - It basically goes: The_Brain - Ouch! The_Brain - In the beginning, you implement the very crude functions, and get very few, very crude demos to work. The_Brain - Later, you implement less and less, and you get more and more working. The_Brain - I'm at the point, now, where a single change can make large numbers of programs work The_Brain - (such as was the case with SMW) The_Brain - (and SM: All Stars, come to think of it...) SDragon - Ok, you are in DC right? What part do you play in DC since it seems to be a major player in console emulation? The_Brain - I maintain the VSMC homepage... Nothing more. SDragon - Ok, what would be your favorite gaming system? The_Brain - aside from the PC and other home computers? I like the SNES -- mainly because it's the only one I'm able to program with (without an emulator, I mean) The_Brain - (ie: I don't have the Magicom for my NES, nor do I have a MagicCard for my GB) SDragon - Ok, for the guys in #emu, what are you working on now? The_Brain - right now, I'm working on the protocol I plan to use for network play, and the cheat finder The_Brain - (and a better file selection GUI and the ability to select your SRAM and REALTIME save filenames) SDragon - Ah, the network play, that should be REALLY kewl, will it support TCP/IP for I-NET games? The_Brain - no IPX only. The_Brain - (it's DOS, remember... The most common DOS network protocol is IPX) The_Brain - (and serial, of course! :) SDragon - Ok, oh, just so it is noted, TB does NOT distribute commercial ROMs, so don't ask him. The_Brain - Thank you SDragon - I am aware about how annoying it is :), well, that about raps it up, anything you would like to comment on? anything is ok The_Brain - Yeah, there is, in fact. The_Brain - I don't really know how to put this lightly... So: The_Brain - To all the lazy freeloaders who complain about the emulators in existence today (not just VSMC), be it for speed or compatibility reasons: Shut up. If you could do any better, you'd have done it yourself. The_Brain - (too much?... maybe) The_Brain - (maybe leave that out... :) SDragon - No, I agree, y0shi said something along those lines too. :) SDragon - Well, thanks for your time! The_Brain - okie :) As a side note: The_Brain - these games will also run on vsmc: The_Brain - Wanderers from YSiii _plays_ The_Brain - these sorta play: The_Brain - (or at least do something good): The_Brain - Super Morph The_Brain - Simcity The_Brain - T2 the Arcade The_Brain - Mario ALl-stars The_Brain - Final Fantasy II The_Brain - Equinox The_Brain - Super Starwars The_Brain - Final Fantasy: MQ The_Brain - Lufia: FOD The_Brain - Ultima: R.O.V. The_Brain - ... hmph... there's more, but I forget The_Brain - OH!! The_Brain - ONE MORE THING: The_Brain - RUNTIME ERROR 203 is caused by INSUFFICIENT CONVENTIONAL MEMORY. SDragon - haha :) ok, that is noted :) The_Brain - (some guy complained that his system had 42 megs, but still wouldn't run ) The_Brain - thanks.
